Zorch (US) is an experimental/noise rock band consiting of two members Zac (keyboards, omnichord and vocals) and Shmu (drums, omnichord and vocals). The band currently resides in Austin, TX. The 4 song demo was tracked live to tape in a day at Cacophony Studios. Stems of the demo for remix are available free through the bands website.

Inservibles demo tape
Mexico City hardcore-punks. Dubbed onto some Spanish brand tape that looks like it was manufactured in the Seventies. Exposed cock on artwork. So far so good. Quite blazing, I wish the tape sounded a little better so I could get more of a handle on it, but it's pretty brutal regardless of sound quality. Vocals are evil in a metallic way, snotty yet also satanic sounding. High velocity shit that reaches near grind-levels of speed at times. Drummer sounds pretty awesome, with some death metal style moves too. I've always been intrigued by Mexican metal/hardcore, but have never had the time/resources to pursue it fully, but this tape brings the violence I was expecting. Six speedball songs, sung in Spanish with venom, referencing the darker side of hardcore and faster-louder purism. Repeat listenings reveal a little more "punk" than I first heard, some pretty good guitar moves in-between the blurry shred, but the careening pace keeps me calling it hardcore, not that it's a bad thing either. A good soundtrack to get stabbed in the pit to.

The Primitives - The Ostrich / Sneaky Pete 7"
In 1963, Reed moved to New York City, and began working as an in-house songwriter for Pickwick Records. In 1964, he scored a minor hit with the single "The Ostrich", a parodic novelty song of popular "dance songs" such as "The Twist" that included lines such as "put your head on the floor and have somebody step on it." His employers had felt the song had hit potential, and arranged for a band to be assembled around Reed to promote the recording. The ad hoc group, called The Primitives, included Welsh musician John Cale, who had recently moved to New York to study music and was playing viola in composer La Monte Young's Theater of Eternal Music along with Tony Conrad. Cale and Conrad were both surprised to find that for "The Ostrich" Reed tuned each string of his guitar to the same note. This technique created a drone effect similar to their experimentation in Young's avant garde ensemble. Disappointed with Reed's performance, Cale was nevertheless impressed by Reed's early repertoire (including "Heroin"), and a partnership began to evolve.

Across four extended soundscapes, psychedelic Denton post-metallers Pyramids team with seemingly everywhere/highly collaborative Toronto duo Nadja to create expansive ambient dirges that feel both fragile and heavy. You get the blast beats and wraithlike black metal vocalism of Pyramids' gorgeous self-titled debut on the airily pummeling "The Sound of Ice and Grass" and for sections of the highly triumphant closer "An Angel Was Heard To Cry Over The City Of Rome," but elsewhere the Texas quartet meld with Aidan Baker and Leah Buckareff to create something entirely new: A spacious, darkly illuminated naturalist drone. The collection includes well-chosen guest spots from Cocteau Twins/This Mortal Coil bassist Simon Raymonde, Albin Julius of Der Blutharsch, and Mineral's Chris Simpson. The Mineral/Gloria Record frontman provides haunted vocals for "Another War". Co-Produced and engineered by Colin Marston and mixed by James Plotkin.
